GENEROUS CAREGIVING: A CORE CHRISTIAN & VERY HUMAN PRACTICE

At different stages of life, in response to different needs, we may be called upon to engage in special caregiving for those we love, whether family and/or brothers and sisters in Christ. These experiences can be deeply meaningful and (literally) life giving, but they are sometimes difficult and draining, and we don't always have the internal and external support and sustenance we need to carry on. In this class we will hear many personal stories from CMCers about their experiences caring for spouses, parents, children and grandchildren, and friends, in times of need. We will also hear professional (yet also personal) insights from those who work in the field of pastoral care and counseling. Come and learn about the perennial practice of caregiving and how following in the footsteps of Jesus (who both gave and received care) might empower these engagements.

THE BIBLE UNWRAPPED: MAKING SENSE OF SCRIPTURE TODAY

Are all the stories in the Bible true? What about the books that got left out? What do we make of all that violence? How does the Bible hang together as a whole? Using the recent book, The Bible Unwrapped, by Mennonite pastor Meghan Larissa Good, this class will benefit all who want to become better readers of scripture. Consider this book required reading. We can bulk order books at a discount, so let the church office know if you're participating in this class. Each session will also have a "Light from Fire by Night" section. Fire by Night: Finding God in the Pages of the Old Testament is another newly published book about Bible reading by our friend and pastor of Raleigh Mennonite Church, Melissa Florer-Bixler. Consider this book recommended reading.
