Adult Sunday School Class Offerings

Fall 2009

September 6 – November 22

(New) How we got the Bible  - Word/Bible Study focus: (Dean House, Room 24)
Contact Person: Nancy Heisey

The Bible is an amazing library that includes material written down and gathered together over a thousand-plus-year period. Since then, it’s been copied, translated, and modern discoveries have added to the richness of its text traditions. This class ponders some of this amazing story, asking the questions that come from acknowledging that our sacred book has its own story, and probing deeper into the ways we can take it seriously.

(New) Exploring the Enneagram - Walk/Discipleship focus: (Dean House, Room 3)

Contact Persons:  Gloria Rhodes

What does it mean to be emotionally and spiritually balanced within my own personality?  We’ll use the enneagram, an ancient tool for personal awareness, to discover and attend to our own personality styles.   And we’ll consider how our personality affects who we are in balance and in stress, in relationships, in conflict, as leaders, and in personal and spiritual growth.

(New)  Chronic Disease Self-Managment (Dean House, Room 2)

Contact Person: Jane Wenger Clemens and Elaine Dunaway

The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a workshop where people with different chronic diseases attend together. It is also geared toward the caregiver whom lives with a person with a chronic illness. It teaches skills needed in the day-to-day management of disease treatment. It encourages persons to maintain and/or increase life’s activities. This class is for physical, mental or social kinds of  “chronic diseases”. There is a lot of problem solving. It is not a support group per se, however it is interactive along with some input from leaders. This is not a drop in class. Persons are asked to commit to attending as often as possible. A workbook is provided.

Open Window Sunday School Class (Dean House, Room 4)

Contact Person: David Detrow.

Open Window class welcomes new and returning members of all ages (especially those who would find it fulfilling to share baked goods with the rest of us on occasion…) A typical Sunday morning includes opportunity for those in attendance to share and reflect on significant events of their past week, numerous times of laughter, and invigorating study of a book, other publication, or topic brought by a class member. The specific agenda for this fall will be set by those who attend the first few Sundays.

Listening Prayer - Worship focus (Prayer Room – up from of south stairwell balcony entrance)

Contact Person:  Cristina Graber Neufeld, Keaton Shenk, and David Glanzer

This class will provide support to each other as we still our hearts and minds and listen to God.  We’ll use as our starting point the scripture passage for the following Sunday.  In the middle of our busy lives, it’s important to take regular time to stop, recognize God’s presence, and allow God to speak to us.  Whether you have never tried this type of prayer before, or already have a regular discipline of listening prayer, you are welcome to join us.

Sunday Bunch (Church building - Room 109)

We gather to renew our commitment to be a “life-giving people” and to find spiritual and political direction.  We discuss issues significant to the current church life.  Topics vary widely but are frequently related to issues of war, peace, justice and the environment.  Come on an occasional interest basis or join us as a regular member.
