CMC Events and Announcements

The Church Office hours are now Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9am-4am.  The Church Office will be closed on Wednesdays. Additionally, the Church Office will be closed on Tuesday, July 30th.

This Saturday, from 10am-2pm on the 3rd floor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Harrisonburg, FUEGO will host a training and launching of our campaign to stop all collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) or La Migra as it is called in Spanish. This effort has the objective of strengthening our Rapid Response network to confront the operations and presence of ICE in our community. At the same time, to empower the most affected communities by defending our rights, dignity and increase collective power. – Tina Beachy (tbeachy530@gmail.com)

You're Invited! A benefit concert to support Jay and Sheri Hartzler’s ongoing ministry in Romania will be held on Sunday, August 11, at 4 p.m. at Park View Mennonite Church. Jay will direct a choir of former EMHS touring choir members and he and Sheri will share stories of their work in Romania.  If you can’t attend the concert but would like to support the Hartzler’s ministry, checks can be written to CMC and marked Hartzler-Romania.

The WITH outreach provides a waiting space for jail visitors at the RISE church building (60 W Market, Harrisonburg) on Saturday mornings. Community Mennonite Church and Trinity Presbyterian Church have been tasked with finding help for the third Saturday of each month. It requires arriving at 7:45 am to make coffee and you’re done before 10 am. If you’re interested in helping, please let Jeff Mumaw (jamumaw@yahoo.com) know.

Do you have a couple hours Wed. from about 11 am – 1pm free? Patchwork Pantry is looking for help with unloading the truck and setting up the kitchen for Wednesday evening pantry. We could use one to two persons each week. We'd be open to setting up a schedule if multiple people were interested. You need to be able to lift heavy boxes and pushcarts loaded with heavy boxes. Kids’ Club happens on Wednesday evenings from 6:00pm – 7:15pm at the church.  There are a number of different roles that we need volunteers for each week. We're using this survey to gauge your interest in volunteering – both how often and what types of roles. Community Mennonite is making potato salad for the Friday meal at the Sing Me High Festival, Aug. 23-34. On Thurs. Aug 22 we need help making the potato salad including cleaning and cutting potatoes, cooking the potatoes and putting the salad together. We will start at about 4:30 pm  We were done around 8 pm last year.  Bring knives for cutting.  I could use one person to help serve on Friday from 5:30-7 pm. There are perks involved. MCC Care Kits for people detained by ICE – After church on Sunday, July 28, we will assemble care kits in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring items for these kits, your already assembled kits, or cash donations ($40/kit) for MCC.  For more information about the kits and what to include, visit mcc.org/immigrationkit.  Outreach Commission plans to make this an ongoing initiative, and other kit collection dates will be added in the future.

The Intensive English Program (IEP) at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) is a pre-collegiate program of study in English as a second language, designed to prepare students for admission to college, further career advancement, and daily interactions in a second language. IEP is now accepting international and local applications for the Fall 2019 Semester, which begins August 28 and ends December 12. International applications should be submitted as soon as possible, to allow sufficient time for the application review and visa processes.
