Local Events and Opportunities:

The Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir, under the direction of Janet Hostetter, will present “Rising on Wings of Song" Sunday, April 10, 4:00 p.m. at EMU’s Lehman Auditorium. The concert will feature hammered dulcimer player, Timothy Seaman and celtic harpist, Ann Robinson from Williamsburg, Virginia.  Tickets are available on-line at emu.edu/box-office or by calling 540-432-4582.  Admission is $15 for adults/$12 for seniors and students and $7 for children age 12 and under.  Young singers (ages 5-18) wishing to participate in the programs of SVCC should call 540-432-4650 for more information.

"Holy and Beloved" is a gathering for women who minister in many ways.  Come to share your passions and encourage each other on April 16, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Discipleship Center, Eastern Mennonite University. Small Church Big Impact is a workshop to address the unique challenges for small and/or rural VMC congregations (100 active members or less), Saturday, April 16, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, at Shady Oak Fellowship Hall (part of Weavers Mennonite Church), 2501 Rawley Pike, Harrisonburg, Va. The Wild Geese Baroque Ensemble will present a benefit concert for the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival in Harrisonburg on Sunday, April 17, Asbury United Methodist Church, 4:00-5:00 pm. A fable will be presented about a family of Irish geese, who, missing the annual migration, attempt to find their own way south, complete with a bit of poetry and a dash of humor. Admission is free, and donations for the 24th annual Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival, slated for June 12-19 in Harrisonburg, are welcome at the concert or online at emu.edu/geese/

The Gemeinschaft Home's Annual Banquet is Friday, April 22 at Park View Mennonite Church, 1600 College Ave., Harrisonburg. The Gemeinschaft Home is a therapeutic community that helps prepare non-violent, non-sexual offenders for re-entry into their communities following incarceration. Banquet events will include a keynote address by Levar Stoney, Secretary of State for the Commonwealth and a JMU alumnus, as well as a silent auction and music. Plan to attend Virginia Mennonite Missions' Auction & Family Missions Festival, May 13-14. Join us on Friday at 5 pm for a Hispanic meal catered by Mennonite Hispanic Initiative, with an auction following at 6:00 pm by Ministry Support Teams to benefit mission workers. The fun continues on Saturday (11:30 am to 3:00 pm) with Family Missions Festival, including tethered hot air balloon rides (weather permitting), model airplanes and drone, a soccer tournament, balloon animals, bouncy house, great music, and more! Visit booths highlighting our work and workers around the world, and get your 'passport' stamped for a prize!
