June 7, 6:30 p.m.–Harmonia Sacra Sing at the Old Hildebrand Church.  The Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center is pleased to host this annual event and have the historic Hildebrand Church come alive again with the sound of Joseph Funk’s beautiful harmonies.  The church is located at 538 Hildebrand Church Road, Waynesboro, Va.

Evening worship services at Conference Assembly are public (gathering music begins at 6:45, service begin at 7 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday, June 11-12.) Navin Benny, a pastor and leader from Trinidad, will bring the message on Thursday from Isaiah 57:14-15: “Holy is His name.” Craig Maven and Jake Lee, pastors at Harrisonburg Mennonite Church, will co-lead the Friday message on " “Kingdom landfill: don’t throw that away!” A freewill offering will be taken to cover the costs of VMC Assembly. Any donations collected above the cost of Assembly will be divided 50-50 with Virginia Mennonite Missions.

The Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center is pleased to present a new production of the Civil War play, Jordan’s Stormy Banks from June 12 to 14. The play tells the vivid story of one Shenandoah Valley family’s struggles during the Civil War and how they reconcile loyalty to family, to country, and to their Lord. Evening and matinee performances of the play will be held in the Main Stage Theater at EMU. Would you like to learn more about Spiritual Formation for Congregational Discernment? Or are you interested in Sustaining Practices in Congregational Worship? Highland Retreat’s Annual Steak BBQ will be held at Highland on Saturday, June 27. The summer staff commissioning service begins at 1:30 p.m. At 3 p.m. activity centers open for all ages: cornhole tournament, zip line, children’s activities, and swimming. At 5 p.m. the steak BBQ begins and live bluegrass music will follow. Highland will provide steak, hot dogs, drink, and potatoes. Please bring a side salad or a dessert, and a donation to support the ministries of Highland Retreat. There will be an Anabaptist Renewal Circles (ARC) Gathering on July 21, just prior to the opening of Mennonite World Conference, at Slate Hill Mennonite Church, 8:30 – 1:30.  Our theme is "God's Heart for the Nations," based on John 3:16. The program goal is to celebrate God's love from different national contexts. We have speakers from North America, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. There will be mission agency representatives from North America: Mennonite Mission Network, VMMissions, EMM and Rosedale Mennonite Missions. Rather than lecture inputs, it will be more about sharing stories of God's work among the nations. We will integrate songs, stories, and prayers throughout the Gathering.

Perspectives on the World Christian Movement has helped thousands of Christians to align their lives with God’s global purposes.  A rich menu of readings and fifteen interactive class sessions, with input from presenters sharing their particular expertise, combine to provide students with an understanding of four distinct dimensions of the missional challenge: Biblical, Historical, Cultural and Strategic. Lanterns of Hope, a support group for those who have lost a loved one to suicide, meets at 7:00 PM on the first Monday of every month at Grace Mennonite Fellowship in Lacey Spring, Va. This informal group was created by a mom, Suzy LaBonte, who lost her sixteen-year-old son to suicide in 2009. The group warmly welcomes newcomers to participate in sharing and support. VMMissions is looking for volunteers to spend the summer (June 1-late August) teaching English in Egypt through Partners in Mission.  As a way of building trust and relationships, the Coptic Orthodox church in Egypt offers English classes for both Muslims and Christians. Is God calling you to learn more about missions in Asia and/or ministry in the slums?  Consider participating in a 6 week Re-Imagine Internship in Jakarta, Indonesia, this summer through a partnership with VMMissions’ Partners in Mission program and Servants to Asia’s Urban Poor.  The internship would include 1 week of orientation, a 4 week home-stay with an east Asian slum family, and 1 week of debriefing, running July 20-August 30.  Both singles and couples are encouraged to consider. The Overcoming Barriers program is designed around the concept of “Empowerment”.  Our mission is to empower individuals with disabilities through the vehicle of physical activity.  The programming gives participants the skills, knowledge, and appropriate attitudes to achieve success and make significant changes in health, wellness, function, and community integration outcomes.  As of Spring 2015, Overcoming Barriers serves more than 200+ individuals with disabilities in the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding areas.  Mentors are needed for our summer camp – June 15-18th from 9am-12 (younger) and 9-3pm (older).
